Gratitude

By

Gratitude can be pretty cliche` this time of year. But there’s a depth to it that goes beyond just “giving thanks.” Its a mindset and literally changes our brain. Living with gratitude strengthens neuropathways related to positive thinking. It also increases positive neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. These are essential for mental well-being. How your brain responds to life, literally changes when you express gratitude.

For a couple years I’ve had a Bible verse from the book of Psalms written on my letter board – “I’m confident that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” For a while I really had to search for God’s goodness and needed to be reminded by other people of his goodness. This is ONE reason why your people/community matters! I knew then and still know now that God is good, but certain seasons make it hard to feel that way. But I think gratitude and God’s goodness are directly correlated for those that believe.

Here’s to a Holiday season that is full of living in and from a place of gratitude. And remember to check on loved ones who may struggle during the Holiday’s. Gratitude and sorrow can coexist.

May we be people who make Earth a little more like Heaven.
